Digitary uses next generation technologies including XML Advanced Electronic Signatures (XAdES) and cryptographic smart cards to provide a highly secure, interoperable and extensible electronic document solution.  The Digitary is implemented in a web environment and does not require that students, graduates or recruiters install costly software on their machines in order to access and verify documents.

Digitary implements a number of existing technical standards to future-proof institutions’ investments. We work consistently with the higher education sector on the development of data standards to add further value by supporting standards initiatives in student mobility and graduate employability.  The Digitary approach is the emerging de facto common practice for the exchange of academic achievement data in Europe.

We implement Qualified Electronic Signatures that comply with the EU Digital Signature Directive and ETSI Standard TS 101 903. These Qualified Electronic Signature are the highest form of Advanced Electronic Signatures and require the use of Qualified Digital Certificates and certified cryptographic hardware devices for physical key storage. Qualified Certificates used with Digitary are issued by an internationally recognised Certificate Authority and are recognised in 99% of browsers and applications.

Digitary maintains the long-term validity of documents through timestamping and periodic notarisation of documents and comply with the XAdES-A standard to ensure cryptographic integrity and legal validity of document signatures into the future.
